Japan, verified on the ground.

I put overseas tools in the hands of Japanese tradespeople and report back what they actually say — in English.

You can't see Japan from outside it

Japanese trade buyers are conservative. The professional shelf is held by long-established domestic brands, and almost nothing useful about how they're chosen is written in English.

Distributors will tell you a product will sell here. They are selling you the distribution.

So most overseas makers enter Japan on a guess — or never enter at all.

Hands-on testing by the people who'd actually buy it

Your tool gets used on real work by Japanese tradespeople and trainees in the relevant discipline. Not a desk review, not a translated spec sheet.

No stake in the outcome

I don't sell your product and I don't take a cut of your sales. That's deliberate — a verdict from someone with a stake in the outcome isn't worth reading.

If the answer is “this won't sell here,” that's what the report says.

How it works

  1. You send one unit. I confirm the testing slot before you ship anything.
  2. It gets used. Real tasks, in the discipline the tool is aimed at.
  3. You get the report and footage, typically within three weeks of arrival.

Why me

I run Bespoke Stay Japan, where I verify Japanese accommodations on the ground and report what I find in English for travellers who can't check for themselves — 57 properties so far.

This is the same method applied to a different subject: something in Japan that outsiders can't inspect, inspected properly, and reported honestly.

I'm building out the tool side now, and I'm taking on early cases at no charge to establish a track record. If that's useful to you, get in touch.
